Too early to give up on Loko in Gagarin Cup

Lokomotiv Yaroslavl have delivered a stunning comeback from two goals behind after two periods to claim their second consecutive win in the best-of-seven series against Atlant. The Moscow region side is, however, still in control, leading it 3-2.

On Thursday, the Yaroslavl side had no breathing room as the guests needed just one win to clinch a birth in the KHL final.

Despite being cheered by the home crowd, Loko found themselves trailing by two goals to none going into the third period. Captain Sergey Mozyakin and key defender Yaroslav Obshut converted their team’s efforts in each of the first two periods.

It looked like Atlant were one foot in the finals. But Ivan Tkachenko pulled one back for the home side midway through the period, and then Aleksandr Galimov tied the proceedings at 2-all with just 5 seconds left on the clock.

Overtime followed and Tkachenko netted the all-important goal after 10 minutes of extra play.

Atlant are still up 3-2 in the series and have another chance to wrap it up on home ice on Saturday.
