Udaltsov Hospitalized in Moscow – Lawyer

Russian opposition figurehead Sergei Udaltsov has been moved to a Moscow hospital, his lawyer Nikolay Polozov said on Monday.

Udaltsov, the coordinator of the opposition Left Front movement, was detained on May 9 when he tried to take part in opposition demonstrations in downtown Moscow. He was charged with defying police orders and sentenced to 15 days in detention. Later he started a “dry” hunger strike.

Doctors examined Udaltsov several times but did not hospitalize him. His health has now taken a turn for the worse. “He cannot terminate the hunger strike on his own. He needs medical assistance,” Polozov said.
Polozov said later in his Twitter:“Sergei Udaltsov has been hospitalized, is receiving medical treatment and has terminated his hunger strike.”
