Ukraine May Impose Wheat Export Quotas

Ukraine may introduce wheat export quotas, the Unian news agency said on Saturday citing grain traders.

The country’s agriculture and food ministry said on Friday about 1.3 million tons of wheat was being exported each month, which was almost double on last year. So by November 15-20, Ukraine’s wheat export reserves (about 5-5.3 million tons) could be exhausted.

Grain traders were told “to exercise a cautious approach in concluding new contracts.”

The ministry earlier ruled out the introduction of grain export quotas in 2012-13.
