UNICS have Kazan progressed to the Top 16 of basketball’s Euroleague, following a 72-61 victory over Galatasaray on home court.
It was the visitors who got off to a strong start. They finished the opening quarter 23-21 ahead, thanks to this three-pointer by Preston Shumpert.
UNICS scored three more pointers during the second ten minutes, to take a narrow 35-34 lead by half-time.
In the third quarter, the hosts extended that to eight points and never looked back in the final period, holding on to their advantage.
Terrell Lyday top-scored for the Kazan side, with 17 points, as UNICS collected a 72-61 win.
“We played well as a team,” Lyday told his team’s official website. “Four players in our roster scored more than 10 points. We played very well in defense. We had a good percentage of three-point shots. When you play like this it’s always very difficult for the opponent to compete.”
With this success and thanks to Montepaschi Siena, the Russians sealed its place in the last 16.
The Italians defeated Union Olimpija on the road 63-57, with victory allowing them to improve to five wins after seven games in Group D and advance to the next alongside UNICS and Barcelona.
