MOSCOW, May 7 (RIA Novosti) – US Secretary of State John Kerry assured Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday that Washington shares Moscow’s approach to the resolution of the Syria conflict.
“The United States believes that we share some very significant common interests with respect to Syria – stability in the region, not having extremists creating problems throughout the region and elsewhere,” Kerry said in the Kremlin.
“It is my hope that today we’ll be able to dig into that a little bit and see if we can find some common ground.”
Kerry also said President Barack Obama hopes to discuss North Korea and Iran with Putin on the sidelines of an upcoming G8 meeting in Northern Ireland.
The 39th G8 summit will be held at Lough Erne in Northern Ireland on June 17-18.
