Wildfires in Russian Far East extinguished

Fire fighters have extinguished 17 wildfires that hit an area of 285 hectares (704 acres) in Russia’s Far East on Sunday, the Emergencies Ministry said.

A total of 169 people fought the fires using 81 firefighting vehicles.

The Primorye Territory in Russia’s Far East introduced a special fire prevention regime on April 5, banning local residents from going to forests due to an increased danger of wildfires because of warm and dry weather.

In the summer of 2010 an enormous heat wave in Central Russia caused massive wildfires across the country.
