Yudashkin rocks opening of Moscow Fashion Week

Haute couturiers from around the world have started showcasing their latest collections at the next, 25th anniversary, Volvo Fashion Week in Moscow. Celebrated Russian fashion designer Valentin Yudashkin opened the event with his catwalk show.

Valentin Yudashkin, whose shows have become the trademark of Moscow Fashion Week, this time presented his women’s collection inspired by the creativity of the American master of abstract expressionism Mark Rothko. The combination of bright colors in thick and thin lines are reminiscent of the paintings of the great artist.

According to the designer, this year’s collection unites elements of the 1970s with contemporary fashion. Sharp forms are underlined with embroidery and decorated with lace and Swarovski crystals. Yudashkin’s collection, traditionally aimed at the “rich and beautiful”, features only luxurious materials such as cashmere, leather, silk, velvet and of course fur.

As a Russian couturier, Yudashkin never forgets to introduce different furs in his outfits. This time the designer turned his attention towards the Caucasus and Dagestan caracul fur, inspired by the famous Caucasian Cossack hat.

Apart from caracul, the outfits are also decorated with foxes, sables and even Russian squirrels.

The series of catwalk shows from over 20 Russian and foreign designers will come to an end on April 4 with the much-awaited comeback of Russian designer Alexander Terekhov.

The week will also feature shows by young and unknown designers along with several internationally acclaimed couturiers such as Alena Akhmadullina and Sergey Sysoyev. The event will also see several debuts including the appearance of Russian actress Renata Litvinova as a fashion designer with a fur collection for the Selvaggio brand.

The week-long event will see a show from Italy’s famous La Perla brand and their new collection as part of the Russia-Italy 2011 cross-culture year.

Moscow’s Volvo Fashion Week opened on Tuesday, two days prior to the opening of the larger scale Russian Fashion Week, this year renamed to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. The country’s main fashion event will kick off in Moscow and will last through April 5 seeing collections from some 90 designers from Russia and abroad.
