MOSCOW, August 20 (Itar-Tass) —— Twenty three wildfires, including eight peat fires, broke out in Central Federal District over the past day. All of them have been put out by Saturday morning, the press service of the Russian Emergencies Ministry’s regional centre told Itar-Tass on Saturday.
The total area exceeded 15.6 ha. All the outbreaks have been extinguished, and no burning fires were reported on Saturday morning, a press service source said.
There were fires in the Vladimir, Ivanovo, Moscow, Yaroslavl, Tambov and Ryazan regions.
A total of 1,326 forest and peat fires on 837.5 ha have been reported in central Russia this year. As compared to the same period of last year, the number decreased 4.64 times, and the area was nearly 67 times less.
Central Russia was most severely hit by large forest fires in July-August 2010.
