56 years in prison for Atlantic Sea pirates

A court in the city of Archangelsk in Russia’s north has sentenced six pirates, who seized the Arctic Sea freighter in July 2009 to total 56 years in prison.

They have been found guilty of piracy and received terms in prison from 7 to 12 years.

The Arctic Sea freighter with the Russian crew on board was sailing from Finland to Algeria when it was seized by the pirates in Atlantic.

The pirates were the citizens of Russia, Latvia and Estonia.

A month later a Russian war ship freed the freighter.
