6.5-magnitude earthquake hits Russias Far East

A 6.5-magnitude earthquake jolted the northern part of Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula in the Far East on Wednesday, with no immediate reports of casualties or damage, the RIA Novosti news agency reported.The quake occurred at 15:12 local time (0312 GMT) with its epicenter located in the region connecting the Kamchatka peninsula with Russia’s mainland at a depth of 23.6 km, the agency quoted the Kamchatka branch of the Russian Geophysical Service as saying.Residents of Ossora and Tilichiki, the nearest villages to the epicenter, felt tremors.
