6 Killed, 2 Injured in Passenger Bus Crash in South Russia

VOLGOGRAD, June 1 (RIA Novosti) – Six people were killed, including a child, and two injured after a passenger bus collided with a car in Russia’s southern Volgograd region on early Saturday, a spokesman for the local Interior Ministry’s department said.

“The driver of a Lada Priora lost control of the vehicle and swerved into the oncoming lane colliding with a Setra passenger bus,” the spokesman said.

According to him, the car burst into flames after the collision killing all six people, including an 11-year-old child, inside the vehicle.

Two bus passengers, including a one-year-old girl, were injured in the traffic accident and taken to a nearby hospital, the spokesman added.

About 30,000 people die in traffic accidents in Russia annually. The accidents are attributed to a poor condition of roads and traffic violations, including drunk driving, running red lights and crossing into the oncoming lane.
