Gaddafi says Libya wants end to fighting

With diplomatic efforts intensifying to end the fighting in Libya, a Libyan minister has told Greece’s prime minister that Tripoli wants an end to fighting.

According to Reuters, Libyan Deputy Foreign Minister Abdelati Obeidi flew to Athens to convey a message from Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.

Obeidi told Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou that Libya wanted a solution to end the fighting and the killing of civilians.

Over the past weeks, Greek PM George Papandreou has been talking by phone with officials in Tripoli.

Other Western countries, wary of becoming entangled in another war, have ruled out sending their own ground troops to help rebels.

The lack of enthusiasm to become involved in the fighting has led to heightened diplomatic action with various scenarios currently being discussed.
