Abkhazian President Sergei Bagapsh has temporarily handed his duties over to Vice President Alexander Ankvaba, a presidential spokesman said on Saturday.
Bagapsh, 62, has recently undergone a lung surgery in Moscow and needs some time to rehabilitate, spokesman Kristian Bzhania said, adding that the surgery has passed successfully.
“He has been transferred to a hospital ward. Doctors recommended that he pass conservative treatment. For the period of rehabilitation the presidential duties has been transferred to the vice president,” Bzhania said.
