About 2,500 trucks waiting for their turn to cross Belarusian-Lithuanian border

MINSK, August 21 (Itar-Tass) — About 2,500 trucks are standing in line on the Belarusian-Lithuanian border. Slightly less than 1,500 of them are waiting for their turn to cross the border in Kotlovka, and Benyakoni and Privalka report 500 trucks each. Observers say the drivers will have to stay on the border for no less than one day.

The only reason for the problem is the temporary closure of the largest motor checkpoint on the Belarusian-Lithuanian border, Kamenny Log – Medininkai, the Belarusian State Border Committee said. New asphalt is being laid on the road in Medininkai.

The other border checkpoints are much smaller and are unable to cope with the large number of trucks despite the intensive work of border guards and customs officers, the committee said.

Therefore, the Belarusian border and customs authorities recommend the drivers to use a bypass via Poland for the next two or three days. There are practically no lines on the Polish-Belarusian border at present.
