TUNIS, September 4 (Itar-Tass) —— The return to stability of the domestic political situation in Libya as soon as possible will bring back to the previous level the relations between Algiers and Tripoli, Algerian Prime Minister Ahmed Uyahya said on Sunday.
“The return to security and stability in Libya will make it possible to restore our close relations,” said the head of the Algerian cabinet of ministers and a deputy to the Council of Nations (upper chamber) of the national parliament of the country.
The Algerian leaders have not yet recognized officially the Transitional National Council of Libya and announced their absolute neutrality with regard to the developments in the Libyan Jamahiriya. The Algerian authorities are waiting for the insurgents to prove their desire to fight the terrorist group of Al Qaeda operating in the Islamic Magrib countries, in the northern part of Africa.
Friction between Algeria and the Libyan insurgents intensified after the Algerian authorities permitted Safia Farkash, the wife of Muammar Gaddafi, his two sons Muhammad and Hannibal, as well as his daughter Ayesha to enter Algeria on August 29. In this connection the Algerian prime minister stressed again that this had been done “out of humanitarian considerations.”
