Hundreds of pilots from the American Airlines air carrier picketed on Thursday at the O’Hare international airport in Chicago protesting against pay and benefits cuts, Chicago Tribune daily reported.
American Airlines is the third largest U.S. air carrier and was a daughter company of the AMR Corp., which is currently in the bankruptcy reorganization. Reuters reported earlier that American Airlines may sack some 11,000 of its personnel and reduce the overall number of flights by one or two percent.
About 200 members of the Allied Pilots Association, representing some 10,000 pilots flying for the American Airlines, marched through the terminals of the O’Hare airport as the air carrier cancelled hundreds of flights this week.
The company blames the pilots for the cancellation. The pilots deny it and also speak for the company’s merger with U.S. Airways.
