Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala have agreed the individual contract with Inter Milan star-striker Samuel Eto’o, but talks on the transfer sum with the Italian club are still underway.
On Wednesday, the Cameroonian attacker put his signature on the three-year deal, which will net him an unbelievable €30 million per season, according to Italy’s La Gazzetta dello Sport daily.
And on Thursday, Anzhi representatives are to meet with their Inter counterparts for further negotiations. The Italians want €30 million for the player, while the Makhachkala team are only ready to part with €22 million.
The paper says a figure of €25 million, with the possibility of an additional performance-related payment, is likely to become the compromise.
Earlier media reports anticipated that the 30-year-old striker to undergo medical examination and be officially presented as an Anzhi player on August 18.
Samuel Eto’o made his name as one of the best forwards on the planet, playing for such clubs as Barcelona and Inter.
He has so far scored 469 goals in club football, winning the Spanish La Liga three times, the Italian championships and four Champions League titles.
The four-times African player of the Year also has 105 caps and 51 goals for Cameroon, with whom he claimed the African Cup of Nations in 2000 and 2002.
If the deal is struck, Eto’o will become Anzhi’s third super-buy after the club was purchased by billionaire Suleyman Kerimov in January.
The Brazilian football legend and FIFA World Cup winner Roberto Carlos joined the Makhachkala team in the winter, while Russian international Yury Zhirkov made his debut in the club over the weekend.
