Another week and another big acquisition seems to be in the cards for Russian Premier League side Anzhi.
The headline-making club is reported to have reached an agreement to sign midfielder Mehdi Carcela-Gonzalez from the Belgian side Standard Liege.
The 22-year-old plays internationally for Morocco and could set the Dagestan side back an estimated $8 million for a three-year deal.
Carcela-Gonzalez was previously linked with a move to Spartak Moscow, but rejected that offer.
Cash-rich Anzhi signed Cameroon superstar striker Samuel Eto’o from Inter Milan just last week, and Russia winger Yury Zhirkov from Chelsea earlier this month after splurging for Brazil legend Roberto Carlos in February.
Anzhi isn’t the only club to make last-gasp buys before the transfer window closes on Wednesday.
Two-time former champions Rubin are also reported to be on the verge of signing Dynamo Kiev’s Finnish midfielder Roman Eremenko.
The 24-year-old holds dual Russian and Finnish citizenship and has been a regular on Finland’s national squad for the last four years.
His deal is reported to be worth around $19 million.
