Apple Unveils New iPhone

MOSCOW, September 12 (RIA Novosti) – Apple Inc. introduced on Wednesday the newest addition to its popular iPhone family, featuring a larger display and support of higher-speed LTE networks.

The iPhone 5, which is 18 percent thinner and 20 percent lighter than its immediate predecessor – iPhone 4S — boasts a four-inch screen with a 1,136 by 640 pixel resolution.

“It is made entirely of glass and aluminum, unlike anything we or anyone in our industry has made before. Hardware and software engineering is the most challenging our team has ever taken on,” Apple’s Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing Philip Schiller said during a live broadcast from San Francisco.

According to Schiller, iPhone 5 has faster Wi-Fi, along with a faster Apple A6 processor.

The new smartphone will be sold at the same price as last year’s 4S model: $199 (16GB), $299 (32GB), $399 (64GB).

“You can pre-order on September 14 it will be shipped just one week later – on September 21 – in the United States, the UK, Canada, France, Hong Kong, Singapore, and then a week later in 20 more countries. By the end of this year, the phone will be available in more than 100 countries. It’s the fastest rollout ever,” Schiller said when introducing the phone.

The iPhone family makes up for half of Apple’s revenue and the majority of its profit.

As of June, Apple has sold 244,000,000 iPhones since the first one came out in 2007.
