An authorized opposition rally in St. Petersburg gathered together about 130 participants, police said on Sunday.
The event, named White Nights, was held peacefully.
Ahead of the rally a group of opposition activists attempted to stage an unauthorized campaign, but police prevented the move. Left Front movement leader Sergey Udaltsov and several other people including two journalists have been detained for defying police orders.
