An Azerbaijani pop duo, Ell and Nikki, won the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest with 221 points on Saturday, a RIA Novosti correspondent reported.
The duo performed a romantic ballad, Running Scared.
Italy’s Raphael Gualazzi came second with 189 points after performing Madness of Love, and Sweden’s Eric Saade, who sang Popular, was in third place with 185 points.
Ukraine gained 159 points and Denmark 134 – fourth and fifth places respectively. They were followed by Bosnia and Herzegovina, Greece, Ireland, Georgia and Germany.
Russia’s Alexei Vorobyov, who sang a song called Get You, written by well-known music producer RedOne, also Lady Gaga’s songwriter, finished 16th.
A total of 43 countries took part in this year’s edition of the annual event. Performers from 25 of them made it to Saturday’s final.
