MAYO, Yukon — A B.C. pilot died when his plane crashed into a remote region of central Yukon last week, the RCMP said in a statement.The unnamed pilot, who was from Duncan, B.C., crashed the single-engine DHC-3 Otter on Thursday near Mayo, Yukon, a settlement about 300 kilometres north of Whitehorse.A helicopter crew flew to the site of the crash, landed, and hiked to the downed plane, where “they were able to confirm that the pilot had not survived the incident,” the RCMP said.No passengers were aboard the plane, which is registered to Black Sheep Aviation, a charter service based in Whitehorse.The Transport Safety Board has since opened an investigation into the crash.
