Belgian citizen detained in Moscow on suspicion of paedophilia

MOSCOW, August 8 (Itar-Tass) — A citizen of Belgium and a local resident suspected of paedophilia have been detained in Moscow.

The Moscow main police department told Itar-Tass on Monday that the alarm was raised by a coach of a sports school on the Rowing Canal who saw two men harassing teenagers. He called the police and tried to detain the criminals on his own, when an operational police group came to the scene.

“Policemen detained two suspects of abusing the boys. One of them is a citizen of Belgium and another one – a Muscovite. Criminal investigation police officers have established that the men had already molested the same teenagers, the eldest of whom is only 13 years old, in the apartment of one of the suspects,” a police spokesman said.

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against the detainees under Article 134 Part 2 of the RF Criminal Code – “sexual intercourse and other sexual acts with a person under the age of 16,” and Article 135 Part 4 of the RF Criminal Code – “indecent assault.” One of them had already been convicted for a similar crime, but police did not specify which of the suspects it was.

Police are checking information about the men’s possible involvement in other similar crimes.
