Boy missing in Black Sea found alive

ANAPA, August 26 (Itar-Tass) — The 9-year-old boy from Moscow who fell overboard in the Black Sea near Anapa is found alive, the Krasnodar territorial emergency situations department told Itar-Tass.

“The crew of the Leopard towboat of the Maritime Rescue Center found the boy at 5:00 p.m. Moscow time. He was wearing a life jacket,” it said.

An ambulance transported the boy to the Novorossiysk hospital.

An adult and five children from a summer camp took a ride in a rubber boat. The sea was rough, and the boat capsized. The Gorgipia tourist boat picked up the adult and four children from the water.

There have been incidents with children taking vacations in southern Russia before. Six schoolchildren from Moscow drowned in the Sea of Azov near Yeisk on July 7, 2010. A teacher, who tried to rescue them, also drowned. Criminal charges were brought against deputy principal of Moscow school No 1065 Irina Ryabova and teacher Alexei Bagryantsev. They were found guilty of negligence and sentenced to 4 and 2.5 years in custody correspondingly.

Detectives said Ryabova permitted children to go swimming but did not check their safety. A sudden weather change ruffled the sea and a current carried the children away from the shore.
