MOSCOW, July 25 (Itar-Tass) —— Bread consumption in Russia has decreased by 5 kilograms over the last three years, according to Russian Grain Union Vice-President Alexander Korbut.
“The share of bread in consumption is declining steadily,” he said on Monday, July 25.
Over the last three years, peer capita bread consumption has dropped by 5 kilograms. “This is a huge amount,” Korbut said.
Low-income people eat less bread than people with big incomes – 88 kilograms against 108 kilograms respectively.
“If we cut bread prices, who will benefits?” he asked.
Korbut believes there should be other tools for supporting consumption in low-income families.
At the same time, he noted that dwindling consumption inside the country provides more opportunities for export.
