A British national accused in Russia of running an illegal gambling business in Moscow has been transferred from a pretrial detention center and is currently under house arrest, a spokesman for Moscow police said on Thursday.
Darren Keane, the chief executive of Storm International Gaming, was arrested on June 22 on suspicion of failing to close the Shangri La casino in downtown Moscow in violation of the Russian ban on gambling introduced in July 2009.
“Medical examination proved that Keane could be kept in pre-detention, but taking into account his cooperation with the investigation and recommendations from the Matrosskaya Tishina pretrial detention center, it was decided to put him under house arrest,” the spokesman said.
If convicted, Keane, 43, could face up to five years in jail.
