Burglars Raid Ex-Bolshoi Ballet Star’s Home

MOSCOW, April 29 (RIA Novosti) – Three burglars raided the home of former Bolshoi ballet star Anastasia Volochkova early on Monday, stealing two safes and assaulting the servants, a police source said.

Police were informed of the attack at a private house in northeast Moscow at 6.30 a.m. local time. A woman called police saying three unknown men had broken into the house, and beaten her, her husband and another woman, the source said.

The assailants then tied up their victims on the house’s upper floor and took two safes with them. The police have not yet calculated the value of the stolen property, the source added.

Volochkova was not at home when the attack occurred, preliminary reports said, but her eight-year-old daughter Ariadna was inside the house during the attack, a police source said, citing the caller.

“Yes. My house has been robbed. But one cannot rob my soul! It is too rich!” Volochkova posted on a Twitter account. “Oh, God. How much anger you have… People… Save your souls” she said.

Russia’s Interior Ministry has officially confirmed the burglary, but not revealed details of the victims’ surnames.

Former Bolshoi star Volochkova was fired from the theatre in 2003, reportedly for being overweight. Volochkova was reinstated to the Bolshoi after a bitter and high-profile legal case, but has not secured any acting roles with the theater since 2004.
