Coast Guards in the Russian Far Eastern Primorye territory detained a Cambodian-flagged fishing vessel on suspicion of poaching in the Russian territorial waters, the local Border Guards Service said on Wednesday.
According to the service, the vessel with a crew of 13 Russian nationals refused to stop on demand from coast guards and tried to escape.
Before the vessel was detained the crew managed to get rid of all illegally caught crab, but the ship still carried over three metric tons of frozen walleye pollack. The crew had no documents permitting fishing.
The Russian Coast Guard service is actively involved in fighting illegal fishing in Russia’s territorial waters and frequently detains foreign-flagged poaching vessels.
