Car accident claims life in city


A 47-year-old Philadelphia man was killed Saturday morning when the car he was riding in slammed into a tree on Roosevelt Boulevard in the city’s Crescentville section, police said.
The victim, Allen Howell, was a passenger in a 1988 Buick travelling northbound on Roosevelt at the time the driver lost control.
The car jumped a curb and ran into a tree shortly after 4 a.m., police said.
Howell, of the city’s Frankford section, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 25-year-old driver was taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center where he was treated and released.
He was not charged and not identified by police, who continue to investigate the accident.
