Car bomb explosion in Baghdad kills 16

A car bomb blast in a predominantly Shia area of southern Baghdad, the Iraqi capital, killed at least 16 people and left dozens wounded on Tuesday, Al Jazeera reported citing security officials.

The explosion ripped through a cafe packed with young men watching a soccer match.

It was the first major attack in Iraq since U.S. forces killed Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden in Pakistan on Sunday.

Iraqi security forces have been on high alert since bin Laden’s death. Security officials said the terrorist organization’s local branch, which is considered its most radical wing, was likely to carry out revenge attacks.
