Chernobyl’s legacy: no likely return to normality and a never-ending bill

Chernobyl has brought greater cancer risks, economic hardship and homes uprooted – and no one can predict when it will end.

According to the Chernobyl Forum, made up of eight UN bodies as well as the governments of Russia, Belarus and Ukraine, around 9,000 eventual deaths from cancers are expected, but these figures are fiercely disputed by other scientists who have estimated far more.
