Christmas spirit: 250 Santas dash through the snow

A huge crowd of bearded, red-clad Santas sped downhill on skis and snowboards at the annual “Santa Sunday” event in the US state of Maine.

The strict dress code for the event stipulated that “Participants must arrive wearing all of the following items: one red Santa hat including a white pompom, one red Santa jacket, one pair of red Santa pants, a Santa beard.”

Those who arrived in the correct attire were in high spirits as they boarded chair lifts before speeding down the hills. Children of all ages turned out to watch the fun.

The 12th annual Santa Sunday is actually a charity event to provide gifts for the area’s needy children.  Staged at the Sunday River Resort on December 4, this year’s jamboree saw 250 skiers and snowboarders taking to the slopes.
