NIZHNY NOVGOROD, December 5 (RIA Novosti) – The Republic of Congo will buy several consignments of Russian-made Tigr (Tiger) armored vehicles for its police force, Russia’s Military-Industrial Company (MIC) said on Wednesday.
“The first contract has been signed and the first consignment of Tigers is being prepared for delivery to the African continent,” the company said, adding that it should be completed before the end of the year.
A second contract with the Congolese Interior Ministry “is pending,” the company said.
A company spokesman declined to disclose the delivery volumes citing “confidentiality agreements.”
He only said Congo will be the second African country to use Russian Tigers, after Guinea.
The SPM-2 GAZ-233036 Tigr (Tiger) is a high-mobility multipurpose military vehicle manufactured by MIC, a GAZ Group division, at the Arzamas machine-manufacturing plant.
It has a maximum speed of 150 kph and can carry up to nine personnel or 1.2 tons of cargo.
