TEHRAN, August 14 (Itar-Tass) — Consolidation of Iranian-Russian relations meets the interests of the two countries, said Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, speaking in an interview with Russia Today television channel.
“Iran and Russia are neighbouring countries. Our states should have friendly relations, which meets their interests and should be used to the maximum,” claimed the Iranian president. He expressed satisfaction with the results of his talks, held with the Russian leadership in the recent past.
“Taking into account the positive nature of these talks, we hope for an accelerated rise in the level of bilateral relations in all the spheres,” Ahmadinejad noted.
Turning to the topic of the upcoming commissioning of the Bushehr nuclear power plant, built in Iran by Russian specialists, the Iranian president noted that putting into operation this project would be held at the set time, and there is no obstacle for this. “All necessary things should be done to ensure security of the station,” the president underlined, calling the Bushehr nuclear power plant “a symbol of Iranian-Russian cooperation” and its upcoming putting into operation – an event that “is closely followed by the entire world”.
