UFA, August 15 (Itar-Tass) —— Cooperation with the mass media is an important trend in the activity of the Interior Ministry of the Russian Federation, Sergei Gerasimov, the Russian deputy minister of the interior, told reporters on Monday. He is on a working visit in Ufa.
“The work with the mass media must be more open. Our staff must learn to give correct and substantive answers to even the trickiest questions of reporters. Moreover, he said, interior bodies must be the first to reveal transgressions in their midst.
Broad cooperation with the media will help to improve the interior bodies’ image with the population.
Gerasimov recalled that a year ago a certain statistician issued the data that 40 percent of the poll had no confidence in law enforcers. But it transpired that 74 percent out of that index had never had anything to do with the interior bodies and judged their work by press reports.
“Now the picture is changing largely due to greater openness about our work,” Gerasimov said.
“As many as 187 of our staffers were awarded the title of Hero of Russia since 1992. And this title is not given for nothing,” Gerasimov said.
