CSTO to enhance its role, hold next official summit in December 2011

ASTANA, August 12 (Itar-Tass) —— The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) plans to enhance its role and hold the next official summit in December 2011, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, who currently presides at the CSTO, said on Friday.

“Today’s [informal] summit focused on ways to strengthen the CSTO,” Lukashenko said.

He admitted a number of problems at the organization but did not go into details. “We took a critical look at the CSTO activity and said that we had a number of shortcomings,” Lukashenko said.

The president also analyzed the recently signed normative acts of the organization. “All these documents will be ratified by the official summit of this December,” he said.
