Debenhams to Enter Russian Market

U.K. department store chain Debenhams will open its first outlet in Russia in September 2012, MEGA mall chain said on Monday.

The first department store under the U.K. brand name will be launched in Moscow’s MEGA Belaya Dacha mall, operated by Sweden’s IKEA Group, MEGA said in a statement without disclosing the terms of the deal.

The new outlet will offer women’s and men’s clothing, baby and household goods as well as cosmetics and perfumes provided by Russia’s Rive Gauche perfumery and cosmetics chain.

Debenhams was founded in the eighteenth century as a single store in London and has now grown to over 160 stores in the United Kingdom and Ireland and 61 outlets in 24 other countries worldwide. It is listed on the London Stock Exchange and is included in the FTSE 250 Index.
