The directors of Russia’s United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) aerospace holding have elected Oleg Demchenko as president of Irkut aircraft maker, replacing Alexei Fyodorov, UAC said in a statement on Tuesday.

“The UAC’s BoD [Board of Directors] decided to agree with the motion of the UAC’s Executive Board on the early resignation of Alexei Fedorov, President of Irkut Corporation, at his request, as well as on the election of Oleg Demchenko, Senior Vice-President of UAC, General Director and General Designer of the Yakovlev Design Bureau, as President of Irkut Corporation,” the statement said.

Demchenko was head of Irkut Corporation from 2005 to 2011.

“Under the guidance of Oleg Demchenko key aviation programs such as the MS-21 and Yak-130 have been successfully developed. His election as President of Irkut Corporation will provide for succession in management as well as high efficiency of Irkut Corporation’s performance,” UAC said.

Irkut, part of the United Aircraft Corporation, designs and produces military and civil aircraft including the MS-21 medium-haul airliner project and Su-30 series fighter jets.
