MOSCOW, August 27 (Itar-Tass) — A dam broke at the Sunzha River in Grozny on Saturday due to downpours and the water level rise.
Over 600 houses have been drowned and over 2,400 people have been evacuated from the dangerous area, said Kantemir Davydov, head of the press service of the North Caucasian regional emergency department.
“According to verified data, a total of 641 houses where over 5,000 people live are located in the flood area. Over 2,400 people have been evacuated,” he said.
Four temporary accommodation centres have been prepared, Davydov said, adding that there “is no need for deploying people there”.
