Duma Deputy Gudkov Files Suit over Protest Warning

Russian State Duma Deputy Dmitry Gudkov has filed suit against prosecutors in Moscow, seeking to have the courts annul the warning that was issued to him after the March of Millions demonstration on May 6.

Prosecutors issued the warning on May 31 over Gudkov’s alleged interference in police operations at the demonstration on Bolotnaya Square.

Gudkov has demanded that prosecutors provide the materials they used as the basis for issuing the warning. Prosecutors say they were guided by two videos, including one of Gudkov in a police van with opposition figurehead Ksenia Sobchak (who shot the video) and another of Gudkov expressing outrage over the May 6 detentions at the local police station.

Gudkov’s suit argues that neither of the videos was shot on Bolotnaya Square and that the police van video was shot on May 8, two days after the alleged interference took place.
