The Egyptian Supreme Administrative Court has ordered on Saturday to dissolve the country’s ousted President Hosni Mubarak’s party.
The court ordered the National Democratic Party to disband and transfer its assets and offices to the state.
Last week new protests occurred in Cairo. The angered protestors promised to remain relentless in the pursuit of their demands, including the social reforms and the prosecutions of former regime figures and a trial for Mubarak and his henchmen for corruption. They also wanted the Egyptian army to hand over power to a civilian government as part of the promised reforms.
Mubarak, who was detained on Tuesday pending an investigation into corruption and abuse of office allegations, may be jailed or hanged if convicted, national media said. The trial is expected to last at least one year.
Egyptian revolutionary youth groups on Friday said they demand a public trial for ousted Mubarak.
Mubarak, 82, has been living in his villa in the Sharm el-Sheikh resort since stepping down and handing power to the military on February 11 following an 18-day popular uprising. He and his family have been banned from leaving the country.
