An 11-hour rescue operation was carried out at a hydroelectric power plant in the Murmansk Region (northern Russia) to save a young elk who fell into the plant’s canal, a plant spokeswoman said on Thursday.
“The elk must have been driven into the canal by bears. There are plenty of them in the neighborhood,” she said.
The rescuers managed to throw a rope over the animal’s horns, attach the other end to a car, and drag the elk out of the canal, she added.
The frightened elk, who was trying to resist his rescuers’ efforts, immediately escaped into the woods.
