Russian Premier League fat cats Anzhi have completed the signing of Cameroon and Inter Milan star striker, Samuel Eto’o. The move makes him the highest-paid player in the world with a weekly wage of around half a million dollars after tax.
The announcement was made after the clubs agreed a fee of around $40 million for the 30-year-old.
According to FIFA agent Pepino Tere, who helped mediate the deal, Inter will also get another $6 million if Eto’o is successful at the Russian club.
The African star becomes the world’s highest-paid footballer, earning nearly $30 million a year – more than a billion rubles. The contract will run till 2014.
Eto’o is expected in the Russian republic of Dagestan on Thursday, where he will be presented to the team and start preparations for Anzhi’s next game against Rostov.
Anzhi, who currently sit fourth in the Russian Premier League, were bought by billionaire Suleiman Kerimov in January, and he has already signed Brazilian legend, Roberto Carlos, and more recently Russia playmaker, Yuri Zhirkov.
