EU to Discuss Cyprus Deal with Russia This Week

European Union officials will discuss a bail-out deal for Cyprus with their Russian partners when they travel to Moscow next Wednesday and Thursday for high-level talks, a spokesman for the European Commission said.Russia’s ambassador to the EU, Vladimir Chizhov, was sharply critical of a deal struck by euro-zone countries last weekend that would see a one-off levy imposed on depositors in Cyprus, saying it amounted to “forceful expropriation.” Mr. Chizhov also said the decision also created the risk of a run on Cypriot banks and of a domino effect in other European countries.A spokesman for t…
