Federal Grid Firm to Merge with Inter-Regional Operator in Energy Reshuffle

Russian Inter-District Grid Company Holding (IDGC Holding) and Federal Grid Company (FGC UES) could be merged into one holding firm in energy reshuffle intended to lure investment for national grid modernization, Russian Acting Deputy Prime Minister Igor Sechin said on Monday.

“The corporate structure [of the united firm] will be discussed but at this stage … the IDGC and FGC will work in present structures with a view to form a united national grid company,” Sechin told reporters without specifying when the company would be formed.

FGC UES operates 121,000 kilometers of electricity transmission lines and about 800 substations with overall capacity of over 305,500 megavolt amperes in Russia. IDGC Holding manages electricity transmission lines with total length at over 2.1 million kilometers and voltage from 0.4 to 220 kilovolts.
