A fire that broke out late on Sunday on board a Russian expedition vessel conducting research in the Norwegian Sea has been put out, a representative of the Main Rescue Coordination Center for Southern Norway said on Monday.
“None of the 40 crew members was hurt and no one asked to be evacuated,” he said.
The crew of Akademik Lazarev ship reported a fire in the ship’s living compartment at 10:40 pm local time (20:40 pm GMT) on Sunday.
Five rescue ships and two helicopters have been sent to the area, some 70 nautical miles (130 kilometers) away from the Norwegian coast.
Earlier reports said there were 30 people on board the ship.
