SAMARA, Russia — Five people died in an apartment-building fire in the central Russian city of Samara on May 6, RFE/RL’s Russian Service reports.
Eleven others, including two children, were hospitalized. Police said they are investigating the cause of the fire but early indications are that it was caused by negligence on the part of tenants.
The fire started in a store on the first floor and spread quickly to the other floors. Firefighters needed several hours to extinguish the blaze.
