Russia’s Federal Security Service and police has held a large scale operation in Moscow to seize from illegal sale databases with personal information about organizations and citizens, the FSB press service said in a statement.
The FSB and police are holding an operation “to terminate illegal activities of persons selling in various shopping malls in Moscow electronic databases that contain personalized information about Russian citizens, as well as information that constitutes state secret,” the FSB said.
“A work into localization of negative effects related to a sale of such bases is held,” the statement reads.
Illicit trade in databases of citizens and organizations has acquired widespread in Russia in recent years. This includes not only information on personal telephone numbers, addresses, e-mails, but also database on personal incomes, taxes, etc.
