Funerals Held for Ingushetia Bombing Victims

Heightened security measures have been put in place for the funerals of some of the seven policemen who were killed in a suicide bomb blast in Russia’s troubled North Caucasus republic of Ingushetia, police said on Monday.

The explosion occurred at the funeral of a fellow police officer on Sunday.

Mourning for the men will begin on Wednesday, Ingushetia head Yunus-Bek Yevkurov told journalists.

At least 15 people were also injured in the attack.

Those “hurt the most” are due to be sent to Moscow for treatment, the Emergencies Ministry said.

Security officers in the Caucasus are regular targets of attacks by Islamist militants who seek independence from Moscow.
