Gaddafi died from gunshot wound

Forensic doctors confirm Libyan ex-leader died of a gunshot wound to the head after they performed an autopsy on his body. A deal has been made to hand over the body to Gaddafi’s tribe.

The deposed leader also had a gunshot wound in his abdomen. “There are multiple injuries. There is a bullet in the abdomen and in the brain,” a medical source said.

The confirmation comes as Libyan pathologists carried out an autopsy overnight on the body of Muammar Gaddafi, Reuters reports.

“He died from a gunshot. It is evident,” the agency quotes one of the doctors as saying.

The UN Human Rights Office and Amnesty International have called for a probe into exactly how Muammar Gaddafi died, taking into account the disturbing circumstances of his killing.

On Saturday military commanders in the Libyan city of Misrata said that no post mortem would be carried out on the body.

“There will be no post mortem today, nor any day,” Agence France Presse quoted Misrata military council spokesman Fathi al-Bashaagha as saying. “No one is going to open up his body.”

A young NTC fighter Sanad al-Sadek al-Ureibi claimed on Friday that he shot the deposed ruler. The claims made in a video leaked onto the Internet contradicting earlier reports made by the NTC which said that Gaddafi died of his wounds after being caught in crossfire between his supporters and NTC forces on Thursday, October 20.

I fired two bullets at him. One hit under his armpit, the other his head. He did not die immediately. It took him half an hour,” al-Ureibi claimed.

The tribe of the late Libyan ex-leader called on the UN, Organization of the Islamic Conference and Amnesty International for a chance to bury Colonel Gaddafi and his son.

Now the country’s new leaders have reached a deal with the family of the late colonel living in Sirte over the body’s handover, reports British news channel “SkyNews”. NTC foreign affairs spokesman Ahmed Jibreel said the handover may be imminent

“There are consultations between the NTC and Gaddafi’s family. It is in the interests of his family and the whole country to bury Gaddafi in a secret place, but this has not been decided yet,” SkyNews quotes the official as saying.

For now, the body has been returned to one of the commercial freezers at a shopping center in Misrata, where it was showcased since Friday.

Hundreds of people wait outside the freezer for their turn to pose for photos with the dead colonel stored as a trophy.
